A Perfect Day in NYC

Fab American Asian restaurant- 2 blocks from The Pod

Today I had the most fabulous lunch at Social Eatz located on 53rd street between 2nd and 3rd Avenue.  This restaurant brings Downtown eating to Mid-Town! Not only do they have a fabulous brunch, but at fabulous prices! You can get a brunch cocktail with a brunch entree for $16 OR a brunch cocktail,  first course, and second course for only $23! How can you beat that?! Have no fear, they also serve dinner.  I was fortunate enough to enjoy their outdoor patio today and bask in the sun while enjoying my meal.

One of the many great things about Social Eatz is it’s a mere 2 minute walk from The Pod.  Here are a few photos of the beautiful brunch I enjoyed today. Some of my favorites were the Edamame and Pea Soup (cold), Cured Tuna Pastrami, and the French Toast.

If you need a reservation feel free to email me at concierge@thepodhotel.com or stop by the concierge desk during your stay.

Jesus Christ Super Star

If you’re a JESUS CHRIST SUPER STAR nerd like myself, you should definitely check out the current production on Broadway.  I grew up singing the songs with my friends and have fond memories of the musical score; I found this production wonderfully directed and thoroughly enjoyable.  This modern production impressed critics at Stratford Shakespeare Festival and now has a home on Broadway.  Directed by Des McAnuff (JERSEY BOYS.)

Best advice- book in advance!

This past February I saw BOOK OF MORMON on Broadway, and as I suspected it was super funny and enjoyable!  Tip: DEFINITELY book your tickets in advance. I booked my tickets in late September for the February tickets.

Hilarious Broadway Play

I absolutely adored the hilarious play ONE MAN TWO GUVNORS.  I was vaguely familiar with the story, as I had read it in a commedia dell’arte class years ago, but I definitely didn’t remember it being this funny.  The show transferred from London’s West End to it’s Broadway home at the Music Box Theatre.  It’s about a servant caught between two bosses and James Corden is pure genius as the harlequin, butler Francis Henshall.

Great East Village Restaurant

A couple weeks ago, after work I had Sunday dinner at The Northern Spy Co in the East Village, located on East 12th street between Avenue A and Avenue B.  I have three words for you: Pork Sticky Rolls.  Amazing! They are these heavenly sticky roll pastries with pork found in-between each layer and topped with a delicious parsnip glaze. They are a MUST if you decide to dine here.  I also enjoyed the Farro and Egg and the Crispy Potato Gnocchi.  I love Gnocchi and have to try it most everywhere. I give it two thumbs up!

Muscles of Joy + Remote Burial
 $12 General Public

Muscles of Joy are a new music ensemble based in Glasgow, Scotland. An all female psychedelic collaboration, with artists Anne-Marie Copestake, Ariki Poreous, Jenny O’Boyle, Katy Dove, Leigh Ferguson, Esther Congreave, and Victoria Morton, the band uses their songs to explore the intricacies of the human voice. Recalling the mutant contortions of Patty Waters, the otherworldly choir of OOIOO, and the disturbed storytelling of the Shadow Ring, the seven voices of Muscles of Joy soar and writhe atop a sparse, sonic architecture built from guitars, percussion, and synthesizers. This will be their first performance in New York, following appearances at the Isabella Stuart Gardner Museum, Boston and Centre for Contemporary Arts, Glasgow.
For more information: facebook.com/Muscles.of.Joy myspace.com/musclesofjoy
Remote Burial is a new Brooklyn band that has created a sharp-edged distillation of early rock and roll. Atop the brash, intertwined guitars of Amelia Saddington and Raquel Vogl, vocalist Jim Loman convulses and howls, creating a compelling, disobedient strain of rock music, one that abandons decades of excess in favor of tightly-wound songs. Dedicated participants of a long-standing experimental music community in New York/Washington DC, the four members of Remote Burial have performed in a variety of bands, including the Cranium, Et At It, Meltdown, and Orthrelm.
This event begins at 7 p.m. No late admission.

Delicious East Village Italian Restaurant

Before heading to Elsa for birthday cocktails, we went to Gnocco for a lovely birthday dinner! Several years ago I lived in Rome Italy for several months, and I must say this Italian restaurant is spot on!  My favorite is their Gnocchi and burrata cheese.  Check out their full menu and website here.

Good Cocktails, Chill atmosphere

photos by Shanna Ravindra

This past weekend was my birthday, and for a fun celebration some friends and I went for cocktails at Elsa in the East Village.  My favorite are their Moscow Mulls, yum! Elsa is great because they make a killer cocktail and as you can see from the pictures, the vibe is super cute and low key.  Read more about Elsa here.
